Enchanting Close-Up Magic at MOD Lyneham
On the vibrant 5th of July 2025, I had the pleasure of performing two hours of close-up magic for the fantastic Harris MM Sergeants Mess at the MOD Lyneham venue, set within the historic Prince Philip Barracks and the Reme Museum. The event buzzed with a lively, fun vibe, complemented by a band playing and a down-to-earth atmosphere that made everyone feel relaxed and ready for some magic.
The venue, with its welcoming signages and accessible roads, was very easy to find, and the helpful staff, escorted by Sergeant Callum and organized by SSgt Scott, ensured that my setup was smooth. There was ample room for changing and early access, which allowed me to prepare and get comfortable before the guests arrived.
The audience, comprising around 50 to 75 guests of diverse nationalities, brought an exciting energy. Magic, after all, is a universal language, and I found myself connecting effortlessly across cultural boundaries. I particularly enjoyed their warm reception and invitations to join in their games, including hammering a nail into wood—an uncertain challenge for me but a lot of fun for everyone watching and participating.

Memorable Moments and Spectacular Reactions
My highlight tricks involved guessing phones’ passwords and the calculator magic, which had everyone amazed and engaged. The pièce de résistance was definitely my card trick I call Nearly Impossible, which drew lots of cheers and applause. Watching guests from different backgrounds react with genuine surprise underlined the power of magic to unite and entertain beyond words.
One of the most memorable moments was when guests, captivated by the magic and camaraderie, invited me to join their outdoor activities. I couldn’t resist, so I hammered a few nails—some successfully! To keep up the fun, we even performed some magic with nails and playing cards, igniting lots of laughs and amazement.
The venue itself was superb: very private, featuring a bar, dancefloor, and tables arranged around the room. Not to mention the outdoor bench area overlooking lush grass, with certificates, badges, and flags adding character and a sense of occasion. Although I declined the tempting chicken from the van, I appreciated the thoughtful hospitality.
All in all, it was a fantastic event—full of joy, good reactions, and fun memories. The helpful staff, welcoming environment, and the audience’s enthusiasm made this a truly special experience. If you're planning an event with a similar vibe or a diverse crowd, I’d highly recommend this venue.
